This two-hour CEU workshop is sponsored by the SDPA Standard and Ethics Committee and focuses on current and relevant ethical issues and updates for 2016. The focus will be on the goals and needs of clinicians providing psychotherapy, yet the content is important for all practicing psychologists.
Through lecture, case examples, and discussion, participants in this workshop will review models of ethical decision making relevant to mental health practice. Course content includes understanding of the current legal processes of the Board of Psychology, (“are you on board with the board”), AB 1775 (child pornography and mandated reporting), changing trends in private practice, key issues in Informed Consent Agreements, and “when it is OK to stop helping”. Additional emphasis includes the importance and current requirements for professional self-care, consultation and self-monitoring, as well as practical tools that clinicians in 2016 need to know. Emphasis will be placed on making professional ethics pragmatic for those of us practicing psychotherapy. This course is highly recommended for those seeking to update their knowledge of professional ethical trends and professional requirements in 2016.
