Whether in a church, a movie theater, at an organization’s holiday celebration, or in a nightclub, gun violence may occur, resulting in mass casualties and death. The impact of these events to families, communities, and first responders is the central emphasis of this workshop. Working through what Lifton, M.D., refers to as the “Death Imprint.” Although the prevention of these events will briefly be discussed, the main area focus will be on responding during and after these tragic events. Mental health professionals have a role to play in assisting in recovery and fostering resiliency.
