On March 25, 2016 from 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM Liberty University Student Counseling Services will provide a seminar on Keeping Clients, Counselors, and Communities Safe with Glenn Lipson, Phd. and Detective William J Zimmerman. This seminar will be provide (4 hours of CE credits) for those who attend.
Detective William J Zimmerman, ret. is a 31 year veteran of the United States Capitol Police. Before his recent retirement he was assigned to the Threat Assessment Section (TAS), and was responsible for investigating threats against Members of the U.S. Congress and their families. He was the first President of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP), D.C. Chapter. Detective Zimmerman will be
Campuses and communities have become plagued by potentially dangerous individuals who emerge almost undetected and destabilize communities with threats and acts of violence and leave behind, in their aftermath, humiliation, regret, unresolved questions, and sustaining fears. Counselors, psychologists, social workers, and student affairs professionals struggle with responding to these threats while balancing the limits of confidentiality with their duty to warn possible victims. This workshop is designed to equip professionals in recognizing, assessing, and handling these potentially dangerous situations.
